ABOUT

Why are you here?

What are you doing here? I’m a student blogger posting about my experiences in Copenhagen... But you already knew that, didn't you? I mean, what else did you expect to find on an “about” page? Like seriously, there is no way you could be on this blog and not know what it's about.

I’m just teasing! I actually think it’s important for my audience to know about my background to better understand my perspectives and experiences.

I come from a small (about 2.5 K students) liberal arts college in relatively rural/suburban Massachusetts. There I am a religious studies and interdisciplinary double major. My interdisciplinary major includes courses in psychology, philosophy, history, and anthropology. I knew I wanted to study abroad my junior year and, although I originally intended on going someplace warm, the DIS abroad experience was something I could not say no too. It offered a greater variety of courses than any other abroad institution I looked into and many of these courses directly related to my area of focus. I applied for and was accepted into the European Humanities/Philosophy program within DIS and picked up Religious Mythos and Philosophical Logos as my core course. I am also enrolled in Making of the Modern Self, Applied Psychotherapy, Nordic Mythology, and Neuroscience of Religion and Atheism. In a few weeks I plan to blog about these classes in more detail.

I am living in an RC (Residential Community) that is only a 10-15 minute bike ride to central Copenhagen and DIS classrooms. Living with other students from The States is comforting but it has also challenged me to meet Danes in alternative ways. One such way was by becoming involved in the visiting host program. Through this I was pared with a Danish family. I visit their home every Monday and we cook and eat together and usually end up having long conversations into the night. I’m sure there will be a future blog or two about them as well.

While I am here I will be traveling to Germany, Greece, and other parts of Denmark with my classes. Through the DIS study tours, I will be canoeing in Sweden and hiking/wandering through Transylvania, Romania. Many students here also opt do self-guided traveling. I would like to go to Poland and Spain, but I haven’t booked anything yet.
